Ferrous chloride production process

1. Reaction of iron metal with hydrochloric acid

The most common method for preparing ferrous chloride is to react iron metal with hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution. This reaction not only produces ferric chloride solution but also liberates hydrogen gas.

Reaction formula:

Fe (solid) + 2 HCl (solution) → FeCl2 (solution) + H2 (gas)

2. Reduce FeCl3 to FeCl2

Reaction formula:
