1. Product Description
Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is a moderately volatile alcohol compared to ethyl alcohol. It is soluble in water and many organic solvents and has a sweet odor.
2. Application
a. Surface paint: Because IPA has a moderate evaporation rate, it provides good anti-fouling properties for nitrocellulose paint. Moreover, it is often used as a substitute for ethanol in certain paints without changing the viscosity of the paint. IPA has good solubility for many types of resins, adding only a small amount of IPA will significantly increase the solubility of nitrocellulose.
b. Detergent: A mixture of 35 to 50% IPA with water is a very effective glass cleaner. IPA is also used in liquid soaps, combined with hydrocarbons for cleaning chemicals.
c. Antifreeze: IPA is a suitable substance to be added to gas and gasoline lines to prevent freezing in winter (in cold countries), it is also a useful refrigerant in air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
d. Chemical raw materials: IPA is used as a raw material to produce glycerol, isopropyl acetate and acetone.
e. Personal care products: IPA is widely used in cosmetics and perfumes. Because IPA has low toxicity and is very gentle on the skin, it is a popular ingredient in many lotions, creams, deodorants and other personal care products.
