HOW TO IDENTIFY IRON III CHLORIDE
General formula: FECL3
Names: Industrial FeCl3, Iron(III) chloride, Iron 3 alum, Ferric Choride, Ferric Chloride, Iron(III) Chloride FeCl3 40%, FeCl3 96%.
Color: Clear, viscous, dark brown solution.
Content: 38% – 40%
Density: 2.89 g/cm3 (at 25°C)
Melting point: 306°C
Working pH: one (200 g/l, H₂O, temperature 20°C)
Solubility in water: 920 g/l (temperature 20°C)
The anhydrous form of iron III chloride is dark brown crystalline flakes or large hexagonal plates; it melts and decomposes at 306 °C. It is soluble in water, ethanol, ether, and glycerol. It is prepared by reacting chlorine with iron(II) sulfate (FeSO4) or iron(II) chloride (FeCl2).
APPLICATION OF IRON III CHLORIDE (FeCL3) IN WASTEWATER TREATMENT
Adjust clean water and wastewater to pH from 7 to 9 with 30% NaOH solution.
+ Helps to coagulate PAFC into the tank, then pump the metered amount into the water to be treated according to the calculated flow rate depending on each type of water quality that has been tested (usually 1m3 of well water consumes 0,2 Kg PAFC and 0,2 Kg NaOH 30%).
+ When PAFC coagulant is supplied to the treatment water, impurities are separated very quickly from the treatment water in microseconds, converted into polymer particles that coagulate and settle in the settling tank.
Iron III Chloride helps disinfect treated clean water for domestic use.

Iron(III) chloride is used in its anhydrous form as a drying reagent in certain reactions.
Used as a pesticide additive.
Used by American coin collectors to determine the date, month, and year of Buffalo nickels that are worn away the date is no longer visible.
Used as a contrast effect with metals, and to see metallic layers or imperfections.
Used to model widmanstatten etch iron meteorites.
Iron(III) chloride for gravure cylindrical engraving is used in the printing industry.
Used to make printed circuit boards (PCBs).
Used in veterinary practice to treat overcropping of animal claws, especially when overcropping results in bleeding.
Reaction with cyclopentadienylmagnesium bromide in a preparation of ferrocene, a metal sandwich complex.
Used in a technique of Raku ware firing, iron colors a piece of pottery pink, brown, and orange.
Used to test pitting and crevice corrosion resistance of stainless steel and other alloys.
